Gallery off Cedar Press Release

On Friday, December 12^th from 5: 33 to 7:30 pm, the public is invited to a gala reception welcoming the Gallery off Cedar to the very active Sandpoint art community. Four local artists, Connie Scherr, Barbara Field, Mary Gayle Young and Cassie Tauber are both the organizers and exhibitors in a joint venture with the Timber Stand Gallery. Theirs is a cooperative effort with this well known downtown gallery; it reflects their goal to display and sell original art in a beautiful, convenient and welcoming setting.

Each of the four artists has considerable experience and a diverse background in the world of art.

Connie Scherr, a long time Sandpoint resident, received her early training in California and now participates as a highly visible watercolor and oil painter in local galleries, studio tours and P.O.A.C. exhibitions. Her work is distinctive in its vibrant interpretation of whimsical wildlife, dramatic floral arrangements and local Sandpoint and North Idaho scenes.

Barbara Field’s artistic career began on the east coast as a high school art teacher and supervisor. Her large watercolor and acrylic paintings are seen in private collections and regional galleries as well as local tours and shows. Utilizing her travels and experiences throughout the greater northwest, she emphasizes within her colorful landscapes subjective perceptions of light, climatic change and movement

Mary Gayle Young is a long time designer of exquisite gem jewelry. Her creations can be seen in Spokane’s Museum of Arts and Culture Gift Shop, The Grand Teton National Park Store and craft shows and exhibitions throughout the North Idaho area. Agate, Jasper, quartz, pearls and turquoise are some of the stones utilized in this Garfield Bay artist’s unique work.

Cassie Tauber is another well known North Idaho Studio Tour and gallery participant. Her magical, free form glass shapes and sculpture are either free-standing or capable of wall mounting. Each of her creations contains colorful old glass recast into highly original pieces suitable for various decors and particular customer use.

The Gallery off Cedar will open in its separate space within the Timber Stand Gallery on December first. The four artists invite the community to preview this exciting new addition prior to the reception on the 12^th . During future months, they will add various special events and artist demonstrations to their gallery offering.
